CREATING
KNOWLEDGE
IN THE NEW ECONOMY

The term “new economy” was coined in the 1990s to represent a movement from an industrial and manufacturing-based economy toward a more service-oriented economy that evolved substantially based on advancements in information technology.  Although associated with the rise and fall of the dot.com, what the new economy really ushered in was a greater reliance by organizations on knowledge and human capital. Considerable research opportunities developed concerning ways to leverage these aspects of economic growth potential. Business schools are particularly well placed to examine the roles of knowledge and human capital in organizational success. As the primary Canadian forum for business scholars to discuss their ideas, the conference theme for ASAC 2009 focuses on creating the knowledge necessary to be successful in this new economy.

Case Track
Business professors, for both research and teaching purposes, have extensively used case writing and case discussion in class.  ASAC 2009, with the support of the School of Business & Economics, Wilfrid Laurier University, and Pearson Education Canada, Inc., will include case discussions and critique sessions as part of the ASAC 2009 Conference to be held in Niagara Falls, Ontario, June 6-9, 2009. Authors of empirical (not fictional) cases (with clear decision focus) relevant for undergraduate or graduate programs are invited to submit their case, and accompanying teaching note. The same requirements and blind review procedures apply as for submissions to the regular research track. Awards, recognizing the best cases submitted, will be presented at the Conference. These awards are sponsored by Laurier School of Business & Economics and Pearson Education Canada. More information about the Case Track can be found at http://www.wlu.ca/sbe/cases/ASAC.

Paper Submission
Submit papers electronically that conform to the ASAC Typing Style Guide.  Papers must not exceed 15 single-spaced pages, including all author information, title of the paper, maximum 50-word abstract, all footnotes, endnotes, tables, figures and appendices, but excluding references.  Submissions should be original and must be related to the field of management and the administrative sciences. They may be in English or French. All contributions will be peer reviewed and selected papers will be included on the Proceedings CDROM.  Contributions must be submitted via the conference website (http://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=asac2009) by 30 January 2009.

Symposia and Workshops
Members interested in assembling a symposium or workshop should prepare a detailed description of its overall purpose and focus on the specific role of each participant and send it electronically to the Academic Reviewer of the relevant division by 30 January 2009.
